AS 4685 expects three levels of inspection
Routine visual checks (daily or weekly), operational inspections (roughly monthly to quarterly), and a comprehensive annual main inspection by a qualified inspector. As the facility owner — school, council, childcare centre or park — that annual inspection and the record-keeping behind it sit squarely within your WHS duty of care.
Most of the sites we see don't have a problem with the equipment itself — they've simply gone a while since anyone checked it properly. A free safety check is the easiest way to find out where you stand, with no cost and no obligation.
A thorough, practical assessment
Structural integrity
Posts, beams, connections and fixings — checked for corrosion, movement, wear and loose or missing fasteners.
Fall zones & softfall
Depth and coverage of loose-fill, or the condition of wet-pour and turf, against AS 4422 requirements for the fall height.
Moving & high-wear parts
Swing chains, bearings, springs, decks, slides and handrails — the parts that take the most punishment over time.
Hazards & compliance
Entrapment, protrusion and entanglement risks, signage, drainage and fencing, assessed against AS 4685.
