Playground Equipment for Childcare Centres
Safe, compliant outdoor play environments for long day care, family day care, and early learning centres. AS/NZS 8124 certified. Australia-wide.
Outdoor play is fundamental to quality early childhood education — not optional. The National Quality Standard (NQS) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) place outdoor environments at the centre of children’s daily learning experiences. Kidzspace designs and supplies commercial playground equipment specifically for childcare operators who need to meet ACECQA requirements, pass AS/NZS 8124 compliance inspections, and create genuinely engaging play environments for children aged 0 to 5.
ACECQA, NQS, and Outdoor Environment Requirements
Under the National Quality Framework, Quality Area 3 addresses the physical environment — including outdoor spaces, equipment, and materials. Approved providers are required to ensure outdoor environments are safe, well-maintained, and developmentally appropriate. Kidzspace works with childcare operators at design stage to ensure the outdoor environment supports NQS Quality Area 3 ratings, providing equipment specifications and compliance documentation needed for ACECQA assessment and regulatory visits.
AS/NZS 8124 Compliance for Under-5s
Playground equipment for children under 5 is governed by the AS/NZS 8124 series of standards, which addresses design, manufacture, and safety requirements for this age group. Key requirements include entrapment prevention for head, neck, and limb openings; age-appropriate physical challenge levels; and specific requirements for safety surfacing under any climbing or elevated play element.
Kidzspace supplies only AS/NZS 8124-certified equipment for childcare installations. Complete compliance documentation — including individual product certificates and soft fall test reports — is provided at project handover, giving childcare operators the records required for regulatory compliance and insurance purposes.
Age-Appropriate Play for 0–5 Years
Effective childcare playgrounds distinguish between the developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Kidzspace designs outdoor environments that zone these age groups thoughtfully — with sensory-rich, low-challenge elements for infants and toddlers, and progressively more active climbing, balancing, and social play equipment for 3–5 year olds. Nature play elements — sand, water play, garden planters, and loose parts storage — are integrated where space and operational constraints permit.
Safety Surfacing to AS 4422
Fall protection is critical in childcare environments. All Kidzspace installations include safety surfacing designed and installed to AS 4422, the Australian Standard for playground surfacing impact attenuation. We supply and install rubber mulch, engineered wood fibre, and wet-pour rubber surfaces, with each installation tested and documented to confirm compliance with the critical fall height of adjacent equipment. Wet-pour rubber is particularly popular in childcare settings for its seamless, cleanable finish and all-abilities accessibility.
Safe Materials and Small Footprint Options
Childcare environments demand materials that are non-toxic, splinter-free, easy to clean, and resistant to heavy daily use. Kidzspace specifies HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastic components for all childcare installations — a material that contains no hazardous additives, is impervious to moisture, and maintains its surface integrity under continuous use and routine cleaning protocols. Powder-coated steel components are UV-stabilised for Australian conditions.
For centres with limited outdoor space, Kidzspace offers compact multi-activity play structures that deliver strong developmental play value in a tight footprint. Our design team can work within your existing licence-area dimensions to maximise the value of every square metre of outdoor space.
Installation Around Operating Hours
Childcare centres cannot close for extended periods during installation. Kidzspace installation crews are experienced in working within operating childcare environments — scheduling groundworks and installation in stages that keep children away from active work zones at all times, completing noisy work outside of nap times, and restoring outdoor areas to a safe, usable condition at the end of each work day. Our installation team holds current Working with Children checks and follows all site-specific child safety protocols.
